Abstract

This research addresses the study of walking bass solos. This kind of solos are a form of improvisation occasionally used by jazz bassists, in which the quarter note is the predominant rhythmic element. Due to the similarity of these solos with what the double bass uses to play in its role as accompanist, it is one of the least explored techniques by double bassists. This article aims to value walking bass solos as a form of improvisation, and review the history of one of the oldest and most unnoticed techniques for the jazz community.
