José Bauzá Llorca (1925-2010) was a pioneer in the dissemination of jazz in his hometown, Alicante, who from 1986 until his death published four discography volumes under the title of Jazz: grabaciones maestras, an important contribution to the bibliography on this music genre in Spain. When Bauzá died, he left an unpublished article, “The conversion from Alicante”, where he provides interesting first-hand testimonies about the love of jazz after the Spanish Civil War. Jazz-hitz publishes now this article with an introduction and explanatory notes from Jorge García, who in a previous text presents José Bauzá, with whom he was a friend.
