Abstract

This paper explores the beginnings of the Hot Club of Barcelona, founded in April 1935, as an active mediator both in the consolidation of jazz in Spain and in the processes of modernisation of this country during the last biennium of the Second Republic. Through the analysis of its official publications, Música Viva and Jazz magazine, as well as other musical press and generalist newspapers, special attention will be paid to the aesthetic ideals of the Hot Club, its musical activities and its relations with other contemporarynational and foreign associations.
