Abstract

In 1923, the US Department of State sent to its consuls in Spain a questionnaire about the economics of music in our country. The article collects their answers, where they offer a panoramic view of our musical reality including references to the American popular music, and describes the situation of jazz in Spain at a time when it was still developing its identity as a musical genre.
