Abstract

This article presents a biographical sketch of the presence in British jazz of the musician, composer, arranger and orchestra conductor Federico Elizalde (1907-1979). Investigating his passage through the incipient jazz of the time provides information on the beginnings of the diff usion and reception of jazz in Europe through dance music, at the same time that we witness one of the fi rst approaches between jazz and the avantgarde of academic music in the context of modern urban popular music.
