The musician Baltasar Samper was a prestigious critic within the Catalan Noucentisme. But unlike the majority of his Catalan modernist colleagues, he was a radical defender of a black and “authentic” jazz as a language of modernity. The basis of this defense was set in a series of articles back in 1930 and 1931, which we present for the fi rst time.
