Abstract

1952 was the year in which Chet Baker went from being a virtually unknown musician to having global visibility and recognition. His association with Gerry Mulligan was certainly the architect of his popularity, but just before the founding of the pianoless quartet, in
May 1952, Chet Baker played for two months with Charlie Parker on the West Coast, this being his fi rst collaboration with a renowned musician.
