Abstract

Due to his overwhelming success as a commercial musician and the tumultuous context of jazz in the fi nal years of Franco’s regime, the achievements of Juan Carlos Calderón in this music have been relegated to obscurity. Careful examination of his jazz recordings
and periodical archives off ers the portrait of an inspired musician, aware of the latest in jazz, who knew how to make the most of his times.
